    • There might be a way to expand RECAP even further, by perhaps using another court document data source.

There might be a way to expand RECAP even further, by perhaps using another court document data source.

If persons who are in possession of filed court documents would share them with RECAP then they could be added to the RECAP db.

Of course the problem is verification, and perhaps some OCR to properly index scanned documents.
That is why donated filed documents would go under a caveat emptor section of RECAP - the documents will be there, but with a warning that they have not been verified against the PACER db, and perhaps suggest that whomever downloads them do…

      • 0.8.1 is not uploading from casd.

I wanted to report that my copy of Recap (0.8.1) doesn't seem to be uploading documents from https://ecf.casd.uscourts.gov/doc1/03716960276

In trying to debug the problem, I'd like to see a log of what it's
trying to do, and when. Is there such a log stored locally? In a quick
        perusal of the source at
        https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/files/browse/107955/file/chrome/recap.jar/content/recapModal.js#top I didn't see such...

Thanks for a lovely and useful extension!

          • Question: When does the docket get updated?

Is it when I do a docket search (and get a long list of docket entries) or is it only when I click the individual items in the docket? Also, how long does it take for the archive page to get updated?

              • Start some sort of discussion forum to invite other ideas

The soaring narrative on public record 'liberation' fails to address some very pertinent facts. There are already grave abuses (for example, in the mugshot publication extortion racket) . Most people aren't quite ready to throw in the towel on the idea of privacy just yet. I think some sort of discussion area should be made, so people interested in this issue can civilly discuss the ramifications of subjecting to 19th Century public records laws to 21st century information technology.

Are the most intimate details of our lives, as rendered into court records then further onto the internet, mere prurient fodder,…

                • Incomplete docket reports for text only electronic orders

Checking a case in the Massachusetts District I found that the docket report on archive.org did not keep the text only electronic orders that were in PACER. The MAD PACER appears to differ from the others in that it provides no document number for those, which is probably why RECAP misses them.

                  • Close Recap white download box by hitting escape

Could you please set it so the white Recap download box could go away by hitting escape? While doing a lot of research and keyboard notetaking, it would be nice to not have to go back to the mouse.

Bankruptcy cases provide a report of all claims filed by creditors. Can recap capture this report and the attached claims? Example case: NCMB 1:10-bk-82315

                      • Implement manual "update" button/form for individual cases to avoid 24h wait for recapthelaw update

How about a button/link/form somewhere on recapthelaw that would allow you to manually initiate an update for a specific case (or, say, up to five cases if you are ambitious)?

For example: After uploading docs to http://www.archive.org/details/gov.uscourts.wvnd.27168, I would *really* like to be able to initiate an update on recapthelaw of just that case, meaning to build/rebuild the recapthelaw summary page and links that you would expect to find at http://archive.recapthelaw.org/wvnd/27168/ .

For cases in which the summary page already exists on recapthelaw, you could include an "update from archive.org" link/button, and for new cases, a form that lets…

                        • Fix HTTP Header / Filename on "free look" downloads

Jim reported some odd behavior with Firefox apparently trying to display the raw text of PDFs inline because PACER doesn't send them properly. Maybe we can fix this.

                          • FIle Renaming Bug Report

When I download PDFs from the E.D. of Missouri, your intelligent renaming feature instead names the file something like W.D.Mo._4-11-cv-00417_1.pdf. Hence, it is labeling the download as if it came from the W.D. of Missouri.

                              • provide a feed of recently acquired documents

I would love to do some interesting projects with the information provided by RECAP, like creating a service that notifies people of constitutional challenges to statutes, or allowing users to find cases currently under litigation by watching for references to particular statutes in briefs. But for these sorts of projects to be useful, there would need a feed of recently added documents, or at a minimum, a list of cases that have been updated recently.

                                • Show available docs in archived docket

Great new feature in v0.7 showing docket but it doesn't indicate which docs are available in archive, unlike when you do a live docket search. If you can add it for pacer, can you add it for archive.org docket lists.

                                    • Dockets don't seem to update in the archive

I've loaded the docket for http://ia301535.us.archive.org/2/items/gov.uscourts.cand.215270/ a few times now, and I get the notification that the docket was updated, but in the archive it doesn't actually seem to change. Any idea why this occurs? Could it be because I'm on a Mac and/or because I didn't load the docket or the case in the right way in PACER?

                                      • Possible bug-RECAP doc doesn't match PACER doc

http://ia301526.us.archive.org/0/items/gov.uscourts.cand.210110/gov.uscourts.cand.210110.docket.html document number 50 is supposed to be a memorandum in opposition to a motion to dismiss, but instead is this document http://www.archive.org/download/gov.uscourts.cand.210110/gov.uscourts.cand.210110.50.0.pdf which is an order denying a request to appear by telephone.

I.E., when I'm in N.D. Cal. PACER looking at case 5:08-cv-05780-JF, I get one document when I click on the RECAP icon next to docket number 50 and a totally different document when I click on the PACER link "50."

                                        This is not good.

We discovered and fixed the source of this problem. There are a couple of remaining stray dockets with mismatched documents, but we know why it happened, we know how to fix it, and are in the process of doing so.
